Work package 5: RTD focused measures

Responsible partner: BAS

Time schedule: 29 months (7 till 36)

Subject Description
Report finding (operational) implementation of the RTD & innovation measures T5.1 Creation or expansion of the regional waste management RTD & innovation clusters via:
1. Waste management cluster entity description;
2. Inviting relevant actors from the specific region to commit themselves to the waste management cluster;
3. Setting up limited number of expert groups (within the clusters; per region) focusing on a variety of themes (depending on the outcomes of the Joint Action Plan; e.g. waste technologies/domains, speeding up innovation processes, business development, finance/funding/venture capital);
4. Monitoring the actual (operational) implementation of the RTD & innovation measures per region (including report with findings).

T5.2 Region internal: Facilitating linkages between the most relevant regional (RTD, innovation and business) actors in order to facilitate the defined RTD & innovation measures (see Joint Action Plans) and the actual creation of knowledge, technologies and innovations in the field of waste and waste management in the region (read: economic development).

In other words: linking (signposting) researchers (priority), students, companies, investors, governmental organisations, and other intermediary organisation. Remark: this task is strongly linked to the actual support and facilitation of RTD & innovation processes, but will not contain RTD & innovation activities itself. Also, this task can not be seen as a communication & dissemination task.

T5.3 Between regions: Facilitate linkages between the relevant (RTD, innovation and business) actors among the 4 involved regions in order to expand international RTD & innovation cooperation and collaboration.
Remark: this task can not be seen as a communication & dissemination task.
Report findings (of exchange programme for students and teachers T5.4 Setting up exchange programmes (among the 4 involved regions) for students and teachers in waste and waste management-related RTD (& innovation). Remark: focus is in principle on science and
technology. Report findings.
Workshops on technological innovation in waste T5.5 Organising regional workshop on research and technological innovation dealing with waste and waste management in relationship with essential facilitating measures (e.g. Joint Action Plans; clustering;
finance/funding, international collaboration between clusters). Principle target groups: researchers, teachers and students (primary: science & technology).
